Surgery was a success!

Monday, September 21, 2009
Riley went into surgery for his hernia on Monday. It was much harder on me than it was him...of course! We got to Primary Children's Hospital at 7:30 in the morning. We checked him in and he watched kids playing with the toys. Riley kept trying to jump off my lap. He wanted to go play so bad, it was so sad...he was just too young! :( The surgeon came and spoke to Allen and I and then we waited for awhile. At 9:00 a guy came to walk us down and so us where to wait. As we got to the end of the hall he looked at me and said, "this is where we say goodbye"...I was thinking "NO WAY! NOT YET!" I started to cry...it was so hard on me. Riley was happy and cheerful, like he always is. I kept trying to give him a kiss goodbye, but everytime I tried to kiss him, he work jerk his head the other way. What a little stinker! He was totally playing games with mom and wouldn't let me kiss him. He walked away in the doctor's arms all happy and smiling and talking.

Allen and I walked away, as I bawled down the hall. We went to the cafeteria for breakfast to distract me. I wouldn't put down Riley's blanket. I had to hold it close to me. It was hard to be away from him! We waited for about an hour and a half and then they finally let one parent to go see him. Of course I went...sorry Allen! Riley was still under. As soon as I saw him I started crying uncontrollably! It was so hard to see him laying in the strange crib and not waking up. I could just barley touch him and had to wait for him to wake up. It was really tough for me. When he woke up he was pretty out of it. We were at the hospital for a few hours for them to watch him and make sure everything was okay. They originally were going to keep him overnight because of his history, but since he did great they let us go home! :) He recovered great, and we just love our boy. Here are some pictures from that day:
Waiting in the waiting room. Happy and cheerful...like always!

Playing with dad as I checked him in!

In his surgery gown. Being a little stinker and goofing off!

With dad again. Like father, like son...

This past week has been very hectic. Riley went into surgery, we moved, had no internet....just crazy. Pictures of our new place coming soon. I LOVE it!

  1. Im so glad everything went well. I have been thinking about you all.

The part where you leave them with the doctors never gets easier. I've had to leave my son 4 times and every time I cry.
